Rıdvan Aşar

Rıdvan Aşar began his education at the Department of Painting, Faculty of Fine Arts, Mardin Artuklu University in 2014 and graduated in 2018. In 2022, he graduated from the Master's program in the Department of Painting at Düzce University. He resides in Mardin and carries out his work in his own studio with a multidisciplinary approach.

Artist Statement

In my artistic practice, I continue to work in the fields of Painting, Video, Installation, and Photography. Rather than limiting my work to the possibilities of the materials, I use the effective language of the material to reflect my artistic thought. In my works, I try to produce political, thought-provoking, and reflective images through system criticism, highlighting the political interventions of the political authority that I have witnessed and which dominate our lives in the geography I live in. In this trajectory, my works develop within an ongoing process, and they are shaped around concepts such as "Power, Authority, Obedience, Domination, Body, Trace, and Geography."

As a result of these investigations, I attempt to show the impressions created by the existing social and political situation on the individual and society in my works, and I can say that I have established the foundation of my artistic practice.
